چکیده

In order to evaluate transport properties in turbulent premixed flames, a propagating turbulent premixed flame in an incoming homogeneous isotropic turbulence is directly simulated assuming a single-step irreversible Arrhenius-type reaction. To investigate the production of turbulent kinetic energy in the flame region, Favre averaged transport equation of turbulent kinetic energy along streamwise direction is analyzed. It is shown that the mean pressure gradient term, pressure dilatation and dilatation dissipation terms have important roles. Favre averaged transport equation of turbulent scalar flux along streamwise direction is then analyzed to investigate the turbulent scalar flux. It is shown that the fluctuating pressure term, mean pressure gradient term and velocity-reaction rate correlation term play important roles on appearance of counter-gradient diffusion.

Transport properties in fully developed turbulent premixed flames

Fully developed stationary premixed flames are obtained by DNS in an incoming homogeneous isotropic turbulent flow. Analysis based on the Favre-averaged transport equation of turbulent kinetic energy shows that pressure gradient term and pressure work term increase turbulent kinetic energy in the flame region, and these terms produce anisotropic turbulence. The counter-gradient diffusion domina...

Equivalence Ratio Effects in Turbulent, Premixed Methane-air Flames

Turbulent methane flames exhibit a change in Markstein number as the equivalence ratio changes. In this paper, we demonstrate how these changes in Markstein number are related to shifts in the chemistry and transport. We focus on the analysis of simulations of two-dimensional premixed turbulent methane flames at equivalence ratios φ=0.55 and φ=1.00 computed using the GRI-Mech 3.0 mechanism. The...

Thermal Radiation Properties of Turbulent Lean Premixed Methane Air Flames

Thermal radiation properties of turbulent premixed flames have received little attention in the past perhaps because of the lower radiative heat loss compared with that for non-premixed flames. However, the high-temperature sensitivity of NO kinetics and the importance of radiation in near-limit laminar premixed flames provide fundamental reasons for studies of radiation properties of turbulent...

Numerical simulation of Lewis number effects on lean premixed turbulent flames

A dominant factor in determining the burning rate of a premixed turbulent flame is the degree to which the flame front is wrinkled by turbulence. Higher turbulent intensities lead to greater wrinkling of the flame front and an increase in the turbulent burning rate. This picture of turbulent flame dynamics must be modified, however, to accommodate the affects of variations in the local propagat...

Numerical Investigation of Scaling Properties of Turbulent Premixed Flames

Gibson scaling and related properties of flame-surface geometry in turbulent premixed combustion are demonstrated using a novel computational model, Deterministic Turbulent Mixing (DTM). In DTM, turbulent advection is represented by a sequence of maps applied to the computational domain. The structure of the mapping sequence incorporates pertinent scaling properties of the turbulent cascade. He...
